Dear student,

~You should have passed your 12th standard with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) as compulsory subjects from a recognised board. ~You should be between 17 to 25 years at the time of joining the course ~You need to be physically fit as per the standards set by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) for sight, hearing with good stamina & endurance ~You have to be an Indian citizen

If you meet the above criteria, you need to choose a DGS certified course like:

~Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS): A 1-year pre-sea training course that leads to a B.Sc. (Nautical Science) degree after further sea service and examinations. This is a common route to become a Deck Cadet and eventually a Deck Officer.

~B.Sc. Nautical Science: A 3-year degree program that covers navigation, seamanship, and maritime safety. Graduates can join as Trainee Navigating Officers.

~B.Tech. Marine Engineering: A 4-year engineering degree focused on the maintenance and operation of ship machinery. Graduates can join as Junior Engineers in the engine department.

~Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) Course: A 4-month pre-sea training course (after a degree or diploma in Electrical/Electronics Engineering) to become an Electrical Officer on board.

~GP (General Purpose) Rating Course: A 6-month pre-sea training course that allows candidates with a 10th or 12th pass (with minimum 40% in English) to work in both the deck and engine departments at the rating level.

You will also need to appear for entrance exams like:

~IMU CET (Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test)

~JEE exam (Joint Entrance exam)

~Sponsorship exams

Our advice would be to research and choose DGS-approved maritime training institutes based on the course you want to pursue and your entrance exam results/sponsorship.
