Anna University 86% colleges fail inspection for TNEA 2025: In a major development ahead of TNEA 2025 exam, nearly 86% of engineering colleges affiliated with Anna University have reportedly failed to meet the prescribed standards during the university’s recent infrastructure and academic inspection drive. Out of the 440+ affiliated colleges inspected, only 40 colleges were found compliant with basic requirements related to faculty availability, laboratory infrastructure, classroom facilities, and student support systems. This has sparked outrage among education advocates and civic groups, who are now demanding that the non-compliant institutions be excluded from this year’s TNEA counselling process.

The inspection, which was carried out in early 2025, aimed to assess whether the colleges maintained the minimum quality benchmarks set by Anna University and AICTE. Shockingly, 400 colleges were found lacking in essential parameters such as qualified faculty, functioning laboratories, updated curriculum delivery systems, and student welfare services.

Following the report, Arappor Iyakkam, a Chennai-based anti-corruption and transparency watchdog, submitted a formal representation to the Tamil Nadu government, demanding that these non-compliant institutions be delisted from the counselling process to protect the academic future of students. The civic group warned that permitting these colleges to participate in the admissions process would result in lakhs of students enrolling in substandard colleges that lack the infrastructure and faculty to provide quality engineering education.

Despite the protests, there has been no official confirmation yet from Anna University or the DoTE regarding the removal or de-affiliation of any colleges from the TNEA 2025 process. However, sources suggest that a revised list of eligible colleges may be released before the counselling schedule begins in July.
