BSF and IIT Khargapur Collaborate to Develop Indigenous Drones: The Border Security Force (BSF) has partnered with the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT-K) to develop advanced drone technologies. This collaboration aims to enhance the BSF's capabilities in drone forensics, counter-unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology, research and development, and training. The agreement was signed by BSF's Inspector General (ICT), Maninder Pratap Singh Pawar, and IIT-K's Dean of Research and Development, Prof Tarun Gupta, in the presence of BSF Director General Daljit Singh Chawdhary.

This partnership is a significant step towards bolstering India's national security, particularly in the face of increasing aerial threats. The BSF has already raised its first drone squadron to counter these threats, especially after the lethal drone attacks witnessed during Operation Sindoor. IIT-K will address specific problems identified by the BSF in drone technology through research and development projects, promoting self-reliance in defense manufacturing.

IIT-K will assist in developing state-of-the-art BSF labs, enhancing the force's capabilities in drone analysis and cybersecurity. The premier institute will also conduct guest lectures, basic, and advanced courses for BSF personnel on drone technology, ensuring they stay updated on the latest developments. Additionally, IIT-K will provide technical advice, research-based problem-solving, and innovation inputs to the BSF, ensuring they stay ahead of emerging threats.

The collaboration is a result of IIT-K's pioneering work in aerospace technology, including its own runway, flight lab, and wind tunnels. Many start-ups have matured from IIT-K on drone technology, and this partnership will further enhance the institute's reputation as a leader in the field. The BSF officers and staff will benefit from the latest developments in drone technology, enabling them to apply this knowledge to improve their operations and management.
